Diego Ribas da Cunha, born February 28, 1985, in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, commonly known as just Diego, is a Brazilian footballer who plays for VfL Wolfsburg.
Diego was first signed by the São Paulo team Santos at the age of 12. Diego developed whilst in the Santos youth system, making his first team debut at the age of 16 in the Rio-São Paulo Championship in 2002 and in the same year he won the domestic Campeonato Brasileiro championship.
Though he struggled to find a place early in his career, Diego blossomed while playing for the Bundesliga’s Werder Bremen, winning player of the year and leading them to a league title.
Now as a member of mighty Juventus, Diego is expected to establish himself among the world’s best, and there’s no better stage to do so than this summer in South Africa. Diego will don the green and yellow in an attempt to secure Brazil’s spot at the top of world football where it belongs.
