Phillip Phillips, born September 20, 1990, in Leesburg, Georgia, USA, is an American singer-songwriter, best known as the winner of the eleventh season of American Idol (2012).

Prior to appearing on ‘American Idol’, Phillips worked at his family’s pawn shop. He graduated from Albany Technical College with a major in Industrial Systems Technology.

In 2011, Phillips auditioned for ‘American Idol’ in Savannah, Georgia, in which he sang “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. He then advanced to the Hollywood rounds.

In February 2012, Phillips was chosen as one of the Top 25 semi-finalists and became the winner on the finale of American Idol on May 23, 2012, against Jessica Sanchez after a record-breaking total of 132 million votes were cast.
