Matt Targett, born December 24, 1985, in Melbourne, Australia, is an Australian sprint freestyle and butterfly swimmer.

Targett’s first world championships came in 2009 in Rome, Italy, he swam 4 races on day one, capturing a silver in the 50m butterfly, with a terrific first 35 meters. On the final day of competition he anchored the men’s 4×100 medley relay to bronze.

At the 2008 Beijing Games, Targett won a medal in his first Olympic event – the 4x100m freestyle relay. The following year, he won silver in the 50m butterfly at the 2009 Rome World Championships.

At the 2012 National Championships, Targett finished third in two events at the 2012 National Championships. He secured a place in the 4x100m freestyle relay after finishing third.
