Jay Ryan, born August 29, 1981 in Auckland, New Zealand, is a New Zealand actor, best known for his leading role in the 2012 CW’s series, “Beauty and the Beast.”

Under his birthname of Jay Bunyan, he appeared as “Glen” in the “Scallywag Pirates”(2000) and had a minor role in “Xena.” He portrayed Jack Scully in the Australian soap opera Neighbours from late 2002 until January 2005. In 2007, he played Seaman William “Billy” Webb aka Spider in the popular Australian drama, “Sea Patrol.:

When auditioning for roles in LA, it was suggested that Ryan change his name. It was felt that “Bunyan” sounded too similar to bunion.

In 2009, Ryan played Kevin in the New Zealand comedy/drama series “Go Girls.” In 2011, he joined the cast of the Australian comedy/drama series Offspring.

In 2012, Ryan was cast as the male lead in the CW’s Beauty and the Beast.
