Mats Hummels, born December 16, 1988, Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, is a German soccer player who plays for German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the German national team.

Hummels is a product of Bayern Munich’s youth academy, first entering the club as a six-year-old.

In 2008, Hummels joined Borussia Dortmund, initially on loan. During his first full season, he quickly established himself as first-choice.

Hummels won the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund in 2012 as Borussia Dortmund set a Bundesliga record with the most points in a Bundesliga season with 81 points.

Hummels’s main position is central defender. He has very good technique in the tackle and often out-muscles his opponents with his strength and height. He also has the pace to catch up with fast opponents and win the ball back. His reading of the game is one of his main strengths, often frustrating his opponents with his well-timed interceptions and long passing capability.
