Matthew Daddario (born October 1, 1987) is an American actor who currently portrays the gay character Alec Lightwood on the Freeform fantasy series Shadowhunters based on The Mortal Instruments series of novels by Cassandra Clare, which has been wildly popular due to his romantic involvement with Harry Shum Jr’s gay character Magnus Bane, affectionately known by fans as Malec. Daddario was born and raised in New York City and is of Italian, Irish, Hungarian, and English ancestry. He made his major film debut in 2013 as Aaron in the romantic drama Breathe In. That same year, he had a supporting role as Channing in the Vince Vaughn comedy Delivery Man. In 2014, Daddario portrayed Danny Ladouceur in the sports drama film When the Game Stands Tall. In 2015, he co-starred as Gabriel in the comedy-drama Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List and in 2016 he starred in the remake of Eli Roth’s horror film Cabin Fever. His older sister is actress Alexandra Daddario of the movie San Andreas and TV series American Horror Story.
